Greg & Claudia Nunn

 A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are for…. It best captures the spirit of adventure and curiosity that shaped Greg’s approach to life and his craft. 

At an early age, he disassembled a Tonka truck marketed as indestructible - curiosity, as to form and function, made Tinker toys and Legos his favorite medium. Raised in the farmlands of the Midwest, service in the Marine Corps fed his wanderlust and encouraged his fascination with other cultures. While stationed in Washington DC, a post at the White House allowed him to see the best of American furniture craftsmanship up close. 

Settling in Central Florida, Greg’s finish construction and electrical skills presented many opportunities. If you have been thrilled by a ride in any of the major theme parks in Orlando, Greg has likely been involved with bringing you that experience, having been part of the ride and show teams for Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Spiderman, The Simpsons, Lights, Motor Action and dozens of other recognizable attractions. Greg and Claudia’s adventure began in 2008, meeting on the construction of Universal Studios Singapore. While living and working in Singapore, they capitalized on the opportunity to travel throughout Thailand, Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Hong Kong, but the most magical place turned out to be in Nepal, where Greg proposed at sunrise in the Himalayas and to his delight, she said yes! To his dismay, he got dysentery after a celebratory swim with elephants in a local river, but that’s another story. 

As a doubles team of attraction construction and facility professionals, Greg and Claudia are a well-known couple in the theme park construction industry. Over the next decade, their partnership took them to a Winter Olympic site in Sochi, Russia, to four years in Dubai on a multi-park and resorted complex build, the largest ever in that region. Further travel to Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Tanzania, South Africa, and Seychelles followed. Continuing work on the Universal Beijing team opened up travel in China and finally spent a year in Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia - home to one of the largest concentrations of artisans and craftsmen in the world. 

Brought home by the global pandemic, they decided now was the opportune time to finally unpack and give serious thought to the idea they’d had for years to open their own shop. Out of their converted two-car garage shop to expanding into a new workshop in College Park this year, they are drawing from decades of experiences from around the globe. Greg enjoys bringing international influences and artisan techniques to realize a client’s dream project.

In their travels, Greg and Claudia developed an affinity for local design, color, and craftsmanship. Greg sought out carpenters and artisans on their trips, taking classes in the high-tech workshops of Dubai to hand carving with a master in the rice terraces of Ubud, Bali. Greg has developed a love of the warmth and richness of wood and a desire to build things to last in the old American craftsman tradition. 

In his free time, Greg can often be found searching for and restoring antique tools; over 100-year-old tools can be found side by side with the latest commercial tools in his shop. Greg has an affinity for pre-World War Two hand planes, tools with heft and history, and hopes to draw from the passion of the previous owners as a craftsman.
